Manually Adding Flight #
When editing a Flight Event in PilotDuty, you can add one or more flights, including the essential process of Manually Adding Flight, to capture detailed flight time, aircraft, and operational data.
โ How to Add a Flight #
- Tap on an existing Flight Event from the Dashboard.
- Scroll down to the Flights section.
- Tap on Add Flight.
- Choose between:
- Add Flight Manually
- Scan Flight Log (ACARS, iPad) (if available)
๐ Tip: The scan option allows you to use your camera to detect flight data from an FMS screen or iPad log.

๐ Add Flight Manually #
Fill in the Flight Information #
After choosing a method, complete the following fields:
Aircraft Info #
- Registration
- Aircraft Type
Flight Times #
- Off Block Time
- Take Off Time
- Landing Time
- On Block Time (optional)
Details #
- Departure Airport (ICAO code)
- Arrival Airport (ICAO code)
- Number of Cycles (Takeoff + Landing)
- IFR/Night/Cross-Country/Operating Rule
- Single Pilot (toggle if solo)
โ ๏ธ Make sure all time entries fall within the eventโs start and stop time.

๐ท Scan Flight Log (ACARS, iPad) #
PilotDuty allows you to scan flight log screens from onboard systems like the FMS (e.g., Airbus Honeywell, Boeing ACARS), iPad EFB apps, or printed flight logs. This feature uses OCR (optical character recognition) to detect key flight times and route info automatically.
๐ Detected fields: #
- OUT โ Off block time
- OFF โ Takeoff time
- ON โ Landing time
- IN โ On block time
- FROM / TO โ ICAO departure and destination airports
๐ช How it works: #
- Tap Add Flight
- Select Scan Flight Log (ACARS, iPad)
- Use the camera to scan your screen (e.g., FMS screen or iPad log)
- Confirm the extracted values
- Tap Add this Flight to save
๐ Make sure the screen is well-lit and clear. The more readable the text, the more accurate the OCR results will be.
โ ๏ธ Note: You can always edit the scanned data manually after itโs imported.

๐๏ธ Delete a Flight #
Swipe left on any flight in the list to reveal the Delete button.
๐ Add Multiple Flights #
You can repeat the Add Flight action multiple times within a single Flight Event to log several legs of a duty period.
๐ง Notes #
- Events and flights must be approved from the Dashboard before appearing in your Logbook or Duty.
- If you’re connected to a PilotDuty Manager organization, flights are synced upon event approval.
- Approved flights cannot be edited unless the event is first unapproved.
