Step 4 – Configure Basic Aircraft Information #

Fill in the following fields:

  • Initiator: Select User initiated if you don’t use an iBeacon, or iBeacon if using one (you’ll assign it in the next steps).
  • CallSign: Enter the registration (e.g., C-FFFF)
  • Aircraft Type: Enter the model (e.g., C172)
  • Takeoff Speed: Enter your average rotation speed (in knots)

Then define your aircraft’s configuration:

  • Aircraft Type Category (e.g., Tricycle Train)
  • Engine Type (e.g., Mono Piston)
  • Propeller Type (e.g., Fixed Pitch)
  • IFR Certified / Single Pilot: Toggle ON/OFF depending on your aircraft’s capabilities.

Step 5 – Assign an iBeacon #

If you selected iBeacon as the initiator:

  • Tap â€œAdopt an iBeacon”
  • The app will begin scanning nearby iBeacon devices.
  • Once an iBeacon is detected (“Near”), tap Adopt Nearest iBeacon.
  • If no iBeacon is found, ensure:
    • Batteries are properly installed
    • The protective film is removed
    • You’re close to the device

✅ Final Step – Exit #

Once everything is filled out:

  • Your aircraft will appear in the Tracked Aircraft list
  • You can always return to modify the configuration or assign an iBeacon later

✈️ You’re ready to track flights automatically!

PilotDuty will now use this aircraft profile to log your flight time, either automatically with an iBeacon or manually if user-initiated.

Don’t forget to set your GPS & notification permissions properly in the Settings > General tab to ensure full background functionality.

Ensure that you have all the necessary information ready to add a aircraft without any delays.

Make sure to familiarize yourself with how to add a aircraft to optimize your PilotDuty experience.

Adding a aircraft allows you to keep a complete record of your flight history.
